Several studies have investigated the association between raw milk consumption and reduced rates of various health conditions:
  • Asthma and Allergies: Research indicates that children who consume unpasteurized milk have a lower prevalence of asthma and allergies. A meta-analysis found that early-life raw milk consumption was associated with reduced risks of asthma, current wheeze, hay fever or allergic rhinitis, and atopic sensitization. (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov)
  • Eczema: The same meta-analysis reported a protective effect of raw milk consumption on eczema, suggesting that early exposure may decrease the likelihood of developing this skin condition. (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov)
  • Ear Infections, Fevers, and Respiratory Infections: Studies have shown that children who consume raw milk experience fewer ear infections, fevers, and respiratory infections. For instance, research from the Raw Milk Institute highlights correlations between raw milk consumption and decreased rates of these conditions. (rawmilkinstitute.org)
Research indicates that raw milk consumption may be associated with a lower risk of asthma, allergies, and other immune-related conditions, likely due to the presence of intact whey proteins and immune-modulating components. Studies suggest that heating raw milk to 149°F denatures whey proteins, which may reduce its potential immune benefits. Additionally, childhood consumption of raw milk has been linked to improved lung function and a lower incidence of allergic diseases later in life, independent of farm or urban environments. Some of these benefits may be mediated by regulatory T cells, which help modulate immune responses. However, public health authorities caution that raw milk can carry harmful pathogens.
